I’ve got to run in a few minutes to make my workout, but I wanted to start with some good information…
…and that is prepare the day before.
I have made a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, and that includes eating right, and that includes exercise. That includes waking up early to get my brain in gear. And, the first few times I tried it…
The habit didn’t stick. I flopped. The alarm would go off, and I’d make an excuse, hit the snooze and roll over. Because I didn’t want to look for socks in the dark and wake up my wife, or because I didn’t want to hunt for something to eat in the morning.
So, I changed that. I got a checklist together that had a list of things that I needed to do in the morning (pray, write goals, listen to good music). I got a half sheet clipboard, and printed a bunch on card stock.
I have baiscally two routines, complete with a checklist:
The AM routine (wake by 5, vitamins, let the dog out).
The PM routine (write goals, prepare breakfast and lunch for the next day, put all of my clothing in my car).
This way, when I wake up, the hard part is done. It’s a TON easier to be fired up if you’re not fighting minutea. In three weeks, it’s made a gigantic difference in my life. I’m not digging a hole anymore, I’m filling it in. I can’t wait to keep the streak alive.
By the way…my streak for consecutive workouts goes from 3 to 4 this morning. Tomorrow–thursday–is the big test because I have to get up at 4am to get my brain in gear so I can get out of the house by 5:30.
