From the practicing entrepreneurs right now, nobody has more insight than Mark Cuban; he’s written about how you only have to be right once (a gem) and he’s written today about increasing the value that the movie experience is, in lieu of monetizing the hell out of the customers. Owning some or most of a studio puts him in perspective, and he’s certainly thinking outside the lines of the rest of hollywood.

Right now, the experience of going ANWHERE is unpleasant. Part of the fun of the movies is the 15-20 minutes of chatting that you can do while we’re wating for the show to start. I remember talking with my mom as a kid, or my wife 3-4 years ago, about the movie, about my day. It was a time to connect; that’s been taken out of the equation, and replaced with jarring advertisements that make it feel like we’re having stuff done “to” us, in the same way that an extended warranty tags on some unpleasantness at the end of a transaction.
Anyway–adding a soundtrack to a movie ticket (even at a small cost) would be a way to restore some of the fun to the theatre. Maybe we could have an AMC thumb drive or whatever that we could just plug in if we wanted to.
Also: I’m launching a transparency|accountability project in a couple of days.
Stay tuned.
