Zen To Done: A Simple Getting Things Done (GTD) System That SO Lives Up To The Hype

Technorati Tags: GTD,ZTD,GenuineChris I’ve been struggling with GTD for a while.  The premise and the action orientation really has changed my life.  But, the wagon is really easy to fall off.  Even David Allen admits falling off the wagon.   The overhead part of the system is necessary.  There are people every day thinking of [...]

What, Me Reader? ME working through my newly added stuff:

Since I got a ton (15k+ ) hits from when #lifehacker, linked here, I thought I’d go through the process that I’ve been using.

Remember:

A-list: read every word, mostly actionable. Lifehacker, Cicerone, Lenderama, Bloodhoundblog, Blown Mortgage, Weblog Tools, Personal Brainding are some examples, there are 40 in this list…starting today, I will probably [...]

Overwhelm.

…to Peace. Tomorrow?  My Documents…that WILL be worse. This is one of those GTD things that totally clears the decks psychically.  Now to get my desk done… I am happy as hell with the role I’ve picked.

GTD: Double Click CTRL and Double Click ALT.

One killer feature of Google Desktop is the fact that it gives you instantaneous access to search.  Hitting Double Click Ctrl brings up at  thought-speeds the search box:

You type, hit enter, and it opens a search page.  You can alt-tab back to what you were doing, the search is waiting for you.

What I want–and it’s [...]

GTD and Google Notebook: Ten Features I Absolutely Pine For

As longtime readers know, I’m a big fan of Google Notebook, and GTD.  And, as cool as hitting ALT-N is, there are critical features missing from notebook that would make it even more glorious as a thought organization tool–without changing the basic “ultra simple ethos.”   Maybe the folks at Lifehacker can help a guy out [...]

Fewer Folders Means You Get More Out of Reader

I follow over 600 feeds.  That’s 20,600 posts per month, according to my stats.  A lot of posts.  And I feel completely comfortable that I’ve read all that I need to, on a consistent basis, in about the order I need to read it.  I am constantly adding feeds willy-nilly to my reader, yet [...]

Super Basic Tip:

Every time you buy a product or service online…the second before you do, google the site name + affiliate, discount, promotions, and offers. Just got a very long trial of e-junkie because of this. And thanks to Cris for the heads up on e-junkie. Makes buttons like this one: $13.50 for volumes 1&2, [...]

More Daily Goal Tracking with Google Docs.

Notice my sidebar?  It’s dummy data for now, but it is dynamic; it works, and it’s reasonably fast.  It’s uploading information based on what I have in a Google Doc, and looks OK in my sidebar.  (Width: 178 in lieu of Google’s 500 standard). This means that I can use Google Docs to track my [...]

Zoho…zOHo…So…Close.

I Could Do Worse Than to Get Stuck With Zoho, But Zoho Could Do Better, Too.
It’s got some slick features.  I haven’t talked myself out of it yet.  There are some serious annoyances that may cause me to not use it; it’s certainly ready for prime time. I’ll start with what it does right:

Speed:  On [...]

Highrise CRM…Close, But No Cigar!

Man, if there was ever unusable software that showed more promise–and thus–was more frustrating, I can’t imagine it.  37 Signals Highrise CRM is ultimately useable as a place to store contacts and contact information.   It’s got some rudimentary TODO features…but it lacks so much that makes it frustrating. What it does right–is a DEAD [...]
