Lead generation. How do YOU do it?
I do lead generation in a number of ways — though Twitter is about my favorite trick right now. I’ve been freelancing now for 20 months, and, for the most part, doing well. I am still wired to be a sales person, and resting that is stupid. Realizing what I can be if I give myself permission not to try and be a marketer…is what’s next.
So, with that said, I got Brian Clark and Sonia Simone’s book, the Freelance X Factor. I was utterly impressed (and have build a business using) Thesis that Brian was involved with. I dug Authority Rules. So hell, I just thought it’d be good to buy the Freelance X Factor. The quality of Thesis was good, so I thought it’d be reasonable that this would have an idea worth the $79 bucks.
I was dead wrong. It had an idea worth $10,000, and then many others. I have closed clients that I never would have thought to approach after listening to the audio.
And I haven’t even used the material right yet.
So, in no particular order, 15 of the most important things the X factor brought us:
- Realtors Are Boofy Haired Dilettantes- Sonia Simone says what we all think in the Audio that comes with this, for free. (Though Lani Anglin said it better)
- Double your fees till people make you stop.
- Corporate clients pay better. Go get you some.
- Nobody wants to pay a scribe well. Don’t be a mere scribe.
- People will buy marketing that “worked on them,” and that’s all the proof you need.
- Double your fees.
- Don’t be afraid to get a smallish niche–it can be profitable.
- Lots of other people think they can write, but effective copy and chatty memos are different.
- Most freelancers undervalue themselves and wind up working as transcriptionists.
- Double. Your. Fees.
- Specialize in a market, don’t try to be all things to all people.
- Say you’re a consultant, not a “social media expert.
- “The Real Time Social Web” is a magnificently turned bullshit phrase any time you need one.
- The best writers and the best paid writers are different things.
- You there? Double Your Fees till people laugh.
What do you do next? Buy the book. Yes, the links are affiliate links. This is the first affiliate link I’m using, but:
- it’s worth it.
- I paid real money for it.
- I’ve bought lots of stuff with better splits I’ll never endorse.
- And, if you hate it, and can’t get your money back from the author? I’ll personally guarantee it if you buy through my link. (All of my affiliates are doubly guaranteed: buy through me and I’ll make sure you get your money back if you hate it).
You’ll be glad you did.
