Hum. Salesforce sells itself short, but I know what you mean about the pricing. I was dealing with some fellow sales fellow in the EMA division and he came across really creepy, telling me what I need to know and dont need to know about salesforce rather than matching my needs to the applicatinos atributes. In the end - and out of responsibility to my employer - I kicked him into touch and consulted others about the app, got help from some "partners" and decided it best suited my requirements. the Microsoft equivalent is right at the top of my "I would not recommend" list - I could not even get sight of this product as you have to register interest and wait (months!) for a rep to call you. FreeCRM is good but not great (I had the paid version for 3 months) I can not imagine what people see in ACT...(?) I would reccomend Siebel and Salesforce. I suppose thought it also depents on your users and also on your own level of (programming / admin) competance.

I've heard really good things about Highrise by 37signals.

I've checked out some of their other products and for the most part, they're beautifuly simplistic.
